— About me

Hi, I’m Melissa

I am a Trauma-Informed Breakthrough Coach, Author, Transpersonal Therapist, & Mindfulness Specialist

My mantra is: “Keep your head up and heart open.”

My Mission is to help people like you who are going through a hard time to turn your breakdown (or verge of one) into a lasting breakthrough. I am here to help you recover or discover your inner light so that you can rise up and shine your way through any dark night that comes along.

Over the past 25 years I have been training in, and practicing a wide range of therapies including Mindfulness, Psychotherapy, Life Coaching, Trauma Recovery, Somatic Modalities, Inner Child Work, Yoga, Dance, Spiritual Counseling, Reiki, Women’s Empowerment, Conscious Communication and more.

I have been working with beautiful souls (clients and students) for 20+ years via private sessions, workshops, retreats, conferences, and classes.

Most of my life I have been on a quest… a true Soul Search, to understand and really know myself and other human beings. It has taken me from the little town in Upstate NY where I grew up to Phoenix, Arizona to the even smaller village in the Gredos Mountains of Spain where I have been living for the past 16 years.

The starting point for the real journey, the inner one, came after watching an episode of Oprah when I was 19. It was then that I began to realize how the emotional issues; rage, fear, jealousy, shame, insecurity, and other problems I was experiencing were the effects of the sexual abuse and trauma I had endured in my childhood.

It was an initial awareness that indeed these adverse childhood experiences had affected me. Up until that point I had tried to pretend that they didn’t. We want so desperately to be/feel “normal” and just “get on with our lives”. Many of us were branded with the “stiff upper lip”, “just suck it up” kind of conditioning. But no matter how much we want to move forward, our past tends to show up in our present, until and unless we face it and re-parent the wounded Inner Child(ren) within.

That catalyst propelled me to spend the next 10 years in Arizona exploring and studying Spirituality and Healing Arts (while working as an Event Coordinator, managing a band, and getting my degree in Communications). I learned an immense amount from incredible teachers and opened a kind of portal within that has been essential both personally and professionally.

Upon confronting death in various forms, I was guided way outside of my comfort zone on a very synchronistic and kind of magical journey that led me to Spain. (Read more about this in my book, 7 Steps to Turn Breakdowns into Breakthroughs).

It was a tumultuous adventure that led me to the place I call home, Casavieja, where I currently live with my life partners Jamie and Mirinda, as well as a community of other like-hearted soul family.

I have grown tremendously during this time. Much of it has been dedicated to the psychological inner work facing the “demons” of my past trauma. I had to make my way through dark nights of the Soul that, at times, felt unbearable and endless. There were many times I wanted to just give up.

In 2013, I was diagnosed with Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) after years of struggling with severe Erythrophobia (Blushing), Social Anxiety, Co-dependence, and Depression.

All of this has served to break open inner barriers, beliefs and programming that has allowed me to rise and shine into the truest version of myself. I have gone from victim to survivor and now I am well on my way to thriving. That is what I know is possible and want for you!

It is why I say and truly believe, “We all have a light within, that no darkness can dim.”

In fact, sometimes that darkness is what propels us to burst out that light that’s shadowed with fears and limiting beliefs, so that we can finally see clearly. Like the sun that is never diminished by the clouds that float past it, our Inner Light, our Essence, our True Self is never tainted, scarred, broken, or dimmed by any amount of difficulty, past trauma, or current struggle. On the contrary, if we dig down deep, reach out and rise up, we will find that it is even brighter and stronger than ever before.

We don’t have to do it alone! We can’t, we mustn’t! I have been able to rise from the ashes thanks to the help of amazing teachers, therapists, coaches, friends, and family as well as a hardworking team of Angels and Spirit Guides.

For that reason, I have dedicated my life to this, to my healing and to yours.

As Maya Angelou said so powerfully, “Just like the moons and like suns, with the certainty of tides, just like hopes springing high, Still I’ll rise.”

When I was in one of the darkest moments, I had a dream one night that I had fallen into a deep hole. I was trapped and scared. A little girl came along singing these words that I’ll never forget “There is always a rope in the Kingdom of God”. (I’m not a religious person so those particular words were quite astonishing). Indeed, it has been my experience… there is always a rope.

If you are ready to rise, to climb up and out, perhaps one of my programs can serve as your rope. Don’t give up, I promise you can find your way!
